Engineers from the Japanese space agency JAXA say they are taking another step closer to achieving a bold vision for the creation of a solar-powered space station that can send energy directly to Earth. So far, they have been able to transmit energy using the wireless method for about 50 meters.
Many scientists and engineers from all over the world have been dreaming for years to realize the vision of building an orbital solar farm that produces energy that would send energy to the surface of the planet. In this way, the energy needs of our globe could be fully met, without the need to consume fossil fuels or polluting the atmosphere caused by their burning.
Unfortunately, the construction of such a farm has many problems, and the biggest one is to develop a way to safely send the generated energy to the surface of the planet. Its quantities would be huge, so extreme precision is required.
The problem is solved by engineers from the Japanese space agency JAXA who have managed to reach the first step to success. Under laboratory conditions, wireless transmission of 1.8 kW of energy over a distance of more than 50 meters, ideally hitting a small receiver.
Engineers first changed the electrical signal to microwaves and then sent it to a receiver that converted electrons into electrons. This is the first successful experiment to send electrons over long distances at such high precision.
